You Are Not Alone

Did you catch that young folks, and older folks alike? You are NOT alone!   How do you know? In today’s society it is common to feel like doing the “right thing” is out dated, and unpopular. To our young folks I know that more and more it seems that standing up for the principles that God stands so firm on gets harder and harder each day. Let’s face the facts; we live in a society where “religion” is not extremely popular, As a matter of fact according to a recent survey most people, especially our young people want “heaven” but not “religion” or “the church”.So how is it that we can continue on? Peter makes if very clear to those he writes to that doing the work of a Christian will not be easy. He reminds his audience “we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles” (1 Pet 4:3. Peter keeps going “In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you. “ (1 Pet. 4:4). It is amazing that words penned nearly two thousand years ago still hold so true today.  See Peter reminds us that many people do not understand why as Christians there activities we cannot participate in. He says “they think it strange”, or they do not understand the reason that as Christian young people there are some things you cannot do, and he says there will be those who will speak evil of you, for following the word of God.

And it is so easy to think that we are the only ones who are doing right. But we should always remember that there are others out there, just like us. Who desire to hold up the word of God, and the standards that God has set for us. And it is important for us to be reminded that we are NOT alone. We even have examples in God’s word of men who had to be reminded that indeed, they were not alone. When the Elijah spoke to God of his “zealous” service, he felt like he was the only one doing the will of God. But we all know God reminded him that there were “seven thousand in Israel, all whose knees have not bowed to Baal” (1 Kings 19:18.) Young and old alike, we are not alone in living the life that God has prescribed for us to live, or in doing the service that God has given us to do.
