Wednesday’s Word

They that make them are like unto them: so is every one that trusteth in them (Psalm 135:18).
The psalmist described idols (false gods) as having mouths which do not speak; eyes which do not see; ears which do not hear and having no breath, they are not alive. They are made, by the hands of man, of silver, gold, stone and wood. These gods, being made by man, are subject to man; these gods, being made by man, are restricted by the limitations of man; these gods, being made by man, will cease to exist at the death of man.

God is to be praised because He is the Creator of man; God is to be praised because He is the giver and sustainer of life; God is to be praised because He is love, mercy and grace; God is to be praised because He is our Savior, Deliver and Redeemer; God is to be praised and none other.

God says that those who create, worship and serve idols are like their idols. God says that He spake everything into existence, man serves gods who do not speak; God gave us His spoken word in written form, man serves gods who cannot think; God says He hears and answers our prayers, man serves gods who cannot hear; God lives forever and offers us eternal life, man serves gods who will never live.

There is no true reason to serve gods when we can and should serve the Lord our God.
