Wednesday’s Word

Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain (Psalm 127:1).

The word translated “house” may also be translated: family or home. So the question that begs to be asked is: who built, made, set-up your family. Is God the designer (architect) of your home; is your home built on the foundation of God; is God the superstructure of your family?

God wants it understood that unless our homes follow the pattern set by Him, then our homes are failures. But the flip side of that coin is: if our homes are built according to the pattern of God, then they are great successes. One would think, that if offered the guarantee of a successful home, everyone would accept that guarantee. B

ut God furthermore, describes the scene portrayed in most homes: people working, night and day, but failing. Those who work for a successful home, but fail to follow God, are guaranteed to fail. It is as though one is walking in the opposite direction of where he desires to go and is confused why he is not getting any closer to his goal. Without God leading our lives, we fail; without God leading our homes, they fail.

As christians, our duty is not to control other homes, but to make sure that our home is following God. Our homes follow God when: husband and wife, follow God; mother and father, follow God; children, follow God. We each must do our part, to make sure that we are following God, then our homes will be the success we desire. In the successful home of God, we serve God and one another; in the successful home of God, we love God and one another; in the successful home of God, we are strengthened by God and we strengthen one another.

Let us make sure we live in a home built by God.
