Time to get ready for summer!

“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”  Mark 16:15

It seems every year like “planning time” comes quicker and quicker.  One minute we are celebrating the holidays with our families, and within just a few short weeks we are planning Vacation Bible School for the summer. I believe that we have one of the best VBS programs around, and I am convinced of that because of the level of effort each and every person who participates gives this program. We have had a steady increase in attendance year over year, and it seems each year that our kids come out prepared to answer Bible questions and are excited about learning the truth of God’s word.

With that being said, we need you. There is MUCH work to be done, and there is a place for you in the work. Think about the work that goes into our VBS program each year: there are invitations to be made, invitations to be handed out, food to be brought, decorations to be prepared, classrooms to be decorated, there are lessons which need to be studied and prepared, there are songs to be learned, there is food to be served, there are doors to be knocked, there is room for you.

If there are any concepts in the word of God which are stressed, preparation is one of them.  Jesus said that he is going to prepare a place for us (John 14:1-2), I can only imagine how beautiful heaven will be if the Son of God Himself has been preparing this place for over 2,000 years. Moses was recorded to have spent eighty years preparing for forty years of work.  Preparation is important, and we will often spend much more time in preparation than the event itself.  You have a talent that can be used in preparing for our VBS. Mark your calendars now we will meet on Sunday March 24th after evening services to discuss our plans for this year. What position can you sign up to assist with? Who will be encouraged by your efforts? What talents do you have that will benefit our young people and their guest?

This congregation spends a large sum of money each year supporting missionaries all over the world, but the world starts at our door. I am proud of the efforts we make here, via online, and through radio to reach out to this community, but I am reminded, that a personal invitation to our VBS may well be one of the most recognized outreach efforts we can make, and that VBS invitation starts with our preparation beginning March 24th.
