Time for Bible Class

“but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (1 Pet 3:18)

Our summer series on “The Christian’s Responsibility” was a great success. I have always loved our summer series. It is a time for the entire congregation to assemble together to hear lessons from very capable speakers on a given topic. It is a great time for some of the men here to participate in sharing a lesson on a subject, and a great time for each of us to study from a “common thread” in the word of God.  The weather is cooling off and, as we do every year in September, we have now begun our fall Bible class quarter. Our Bible classes are equally important. They provide a background for our young people to ask questions and to study age appropriate material with one another. Our men and ladies meet in their respective classes to study and to encourage one another each Wednesday night.

Peter spends a great deal of time concerning growth; he reminds us we are to “grow in the grace and knowledge” (1 Peter 3:18). Our study is important. Paul writes that our faith comes by our hearing of the word of God (Romans 10:17), and Peter reminds we are to “study” to “show ourselves approved unto God”. Our study is valuable for so many reasons. But, why? Look at some things Peter reminds us:

–          Our grace and peace are “multiplied” through knowledge (2 Peter 1:2)

–          We have been given all things that pertain to life and godliness through :knowledge (2 Peter 1:3)

–          Paul reminds us that when we read we will understand his knowledge in the mystery of Christ (Eph 3:4)

–          Paul tells Timothy that God desires all to be saved and come to “knowledge” of the truth (1 Timothy 1:4)

The references are endless, but the point is clear, that our study of the word of God is vital for our growth (1 Pet 2:2). We make so many plans this time of year and have so many activities scheduled, but God is clear that we are to study from the Word. Ensure that you take time each Sunday to be present at 9am for Bible class, and each Wednesday at 7pm for Bible class. The benefits are eternal.
