Thursday’s Thought

He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch (Proverbs 11:28).

In what or in whom is your confidence placed? The word translated “trusteth” presents the idea of : refuge; to be confident or sure. To what do you look when seeking assurance?

The things of this world are temporary, therefore any surety found in them, is short lived. The apostle Peter, inspired of God, wrote that this world will be burned up and the works that are therein. There are some beautiful buildings, which some men spent their lives designing and building, but they will be burned up; there are some organizations, which men have spent their lives and fortunes to establish, but they shall be burned up; there are businesses, which men have spent their lives to create, but they will be burned up. All things of this world will meet the same fate, they will be burned up in that last day.

The things of God are eternal and they will be in Heaven forever. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit will be in Heaven eternally; the church of Christ, the bride of Christ, the body of Christ will be in Heaven eternally; all the faithful of the Patriarch and Mosaic ages will be in Heaven eternally. Therefore, Jesus commands that His followers are to send forward their treasures to Heaven and not trust in the treasures of this world (Matthew 6:19-21). Paul warned Timothy and all others to trust in God, not in the uncertain riches of this world (I Timothy 6:17).

Let us make sure that our heart, soul and mind is set on the treasures of Heaven, not the trash of this world.
