Thursday’s Thought

For they are life unto those that find them and health to all their flesh (Proverbs 4:22).

Solomon penned these words in describing the words of God. Indeed, the words of God are life and health. Jesus Christ stated that it is not the physical bread alone that gives man life, but it is every word of God that sustains us. The body craves to be fed, without which it will weaken and perish; the soul must also be properly fed, without which it will weaken and perish.

Some Christians wonder why they are weak, yet they fail to feed themselves the diet prepared by God. Others live lives where in spiritually their growth is stunted, because they refuse to move from a diet of milk by beginning to consume the meat of the word. Solomon spoke of health and life; without the word, we will have neither. Without the word of God, we cannot enjoy good spiritual health; without the word of God, we cannot live.

Some question the validity of reading the Bible every day; of  personal Bible study; of participating in Sunday and Wednesday Bible class; of a steady diet of the bread of life. There should be no question, the understanding must be, without it we die. We understand, that without proper nutrition our body will die; we must also understand that without proper nutrition of the soul, our soul dies.

It is important for us to feed the body; it is of eternal importance for us to feed the soul. Our wonderful Creator, knows what it takes to sustain the body; our wonderful Creator, knows what it takes to sustain the soul and He provides all that we need. We serve a loving God, who gives us everything we need to live a healthy life that will take us into eternity; we serve a loving God, who prepares a feast for us to consume every day.

Let us feast upon the bread of life, prepared by the giver of life.
