Thursday’s Thought

Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the Lord (Psalm 144:15).

The psalmist spoke of blessings enjoyed from God. He spoke of deliverance from the enemy; he spoke of the blessing of children, of the successes of sons and daughters; he spoke of our barns being full, our flocks multiplying, our oxen being strong and ready to work, etc. Those who find themselves in this situation are truly blessed of God.

After the psalmist discussed all the wonderful blessings, he summarized being truly blessed in these words:”blessed is that people, whose God is the Lord.” Being blessed of God, is true happiness.

The world desires happiness, but they fail to seek happiness where it can be found. True happiness can be obtained only from the One who can provide eternal happiness. True happiness is not something that is frivolous or superficial, but it can be gained only through faithful and diligent service unto God. Jesus Christ warned against attempting to serve two masters (Matthew 6:24) and James gave warnings against the double minded man (James 1:8). Seeking true happiness, while serving Satan, leads only to total and complete frustration; seeking happiness, while faithfully serving the Savior, brings total and complete blessedness.

The psalmist presented a truth, wherein we must ask ourselves: Is the Lord God my Lord and my God? Is the self-existent, provider of salvation, the supreme authority in my life?

Let us determine to allow the Lord to be our God, through whom we can enjoy true happiness.
