Thursday’s Thought

They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel (Psalm 10613).

The psalmist reported that the children of Israel (the chosen of God) forgot God. God recalled the many times he delivered Israel out of the hands of their enemies, but Israel forgot. The period of the Judges is a snapshot of such occurrences: God blessed Israel, Israel prospered, Israel left God, Israel was oppressed by their enemy, God delivered them and the cycle repeated itself.

Looking back on the history of Israel, one has to ask: how could israel forget God. Without God, Israel would have never existed; without God, Israel would have never prospered; without God, Israel would have never been delivered from Egypt; without God, Israel would have never conquered Canaan. With all this, someway, somehow, Israel forgot God.

God, in His holy word, reminds us of what He has done for us and yet, sometimes we forget God. God became man, so that we can be a member of His family; God left Heaven and came to earth so that we may leave earth and go to Heaven; God walked with man, so that we may walk with Him; God allowed Himself to be tempted, so that we may overcome temptation; God died on the cross of Calvary, so that we may live eternally in Heaven.

We look back at the Jews and wonder how they could forget God. I have to believe, that the Jews look at us and wonder how we could forget God. Today, do not forget to thank God.
