Thursday’s Thought

So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows (Psalm 61:8).
Has God made any promises to mankind? Has God made any promises to those who faithfully follow Him and also to those who turn their backs against Him? To each of these questions, the answer is, yes. To the world, God has promised: sunshine and rain, daylight and dark, summer and winter until the end of time. Also, God has promised that He will never again destroy the world by flood, but by fire. To the ungodly, God has promised the availability of salvation through His Son and the guarantee of judgement to come. To the godly, God has promised to never leave nor forsake them; that He will be their strength to overcome Satan and that Heaven will be their eternal home.
Have you made any promises to God? If you are a child of God, you have made many promises to God. You have promised to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength; you have promised to diligently serve God each day; you have promised to bury the old man of sin and not to revive him; you have promised to follow the example set by our Lord; you have promised to put God and His righteousness first in your life; you have promised to teach the world the gospel of Jesus Christ; you have promised to die to sin and live in Christ.
In remembering the blessings received from God, the psalmist desired to live in such a manner as to bring praise and glory to God. Jesus said that we are to live lives which bring glory to God. Let us strive to fulfill the promises we have made, knowing assuredly that God will fulfill His promises.
