The Busy Summer

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord,

knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Cor 15:58)

This has been a great summer, and the nice cool nights we have had over the last week have been wonderful! If you remember back to the end of spring there was an article in our bulletin here entitled “The Busy Summer”. It talked about the many events that we at Logan Martin had planned for the summer, and all of the opportunities we have to work and grow the church, and to encourage the members here at the church as well. School starts back tomorrow and, for most of our kids and families, the summer has come to a close, regardless of what the thermometer says. I would like to just take a moment and look back over the summer and some things we have accomplished together.

The Pell City Block Party: There is no question this is a great outreach event. We had so many of our members spend time on the first Friday in June to hand out over 800 bottles of water and about that many pamphlets about the church, as well as invitations to come be with us and our Vacation Bible School. Because of the efforts of so many, we have had some who have visited with us and attended VBS.  The Block Party requires people to set up, those to take down, those to hand out, and those to just be there and be “friendly”. A special thank you to everyone who made this possible!

Youth Camps: Our young people are special, and we are fortunate to have them. For several years Logan Martin has been privileged to be involved in works at three sound Christian camps. In many parts of the county you can go for hundreds of miles without seeing a Christian camp, and here we have three within a 100 mile radius. Backwoods Christian Camp, Indian Creek Youth Camp, and Maywood Christian Camp all are represented by members at Logan Martin during certain weeks of the summer. Both Backwoods and Indian Creek are represented by members here who serve in leadership roles during the summer.

Vacation Bible School: There is no question this year’s VBS was one for the books. Our attendance was great as we were “All Aboard the Kingdom Express”. Each night our attendance was over 70, with many of those being young people. So many of you worked from early March through early July making sure lessons were in place, decorations were up, and flyers were handed out. While there is no question if you participated you benefited, the real benefits came to the young people who attended each night! There is no question you are to be commended for your hard work!

Homecoming and Gospel Meeting: What a way to close our summer! Homecoming is one of my personal favorite events, seeing those we have not seen in a while. And listening to lessons each night from Chuck Webster made this year a wonderful Homecoming/Gospel Meeting!

Let’s not lose sight of the goal; while our summer has been great and the activities have been encouraging, there is much to do ahead! Jesus said that the fields are “white unto harvest” (John 4:35) and our work is not done. What a great privilege it is to serve with you in this congregation, where we are so active and working together to serve the Lord. Thank you for all you have done, and by all means, keep up the great work!
