Thank You!!!

I have to say that our Area Wide Devo was a success! The “official” count was 178; the preacher count was about 250, though. We are so thankful to the congregations that made the drive to Pell City to be with us on Sunday. There are so many who helped in so many ways with this program. Many of you brought drinks or food, and you are to be thanked. We had at least 178 hungry guests we had to feed, and it went seamlessly. Many of you served our guests, or spent time inviting guests to be with us. Whatever your role, thank you so very much for your participation in this event. Even the Pell City Police assisted in traffic control Sunday. What a great “problem” to have. The singing was amazing. If 178 of us singing praises to God was so uplifting, I can only think of what heaven will be like. Can’t you?

One thing I love about our congregation is that things move swiftly, and for our youth program, our attention must now turn to our VBS on July 8th – 10th. We hope to have large crowds again. The invitations are being made, T-shirt orders will made soon, flyers must go out, and the building must be decorated. But most importantly our teachers must prepare to present the word of God to those in attendance each night. Solomon gives the admonition to parents to “train up a child in the way he should go”, reminding them that in doing this that “when he is old he will not depart from it” (Prov 22:6). Programs such as our Vacation Bible School serve a much larger purpose in molding and shaping the children who attend here, and the guests who will come along with them. We have a biblical reminder that if they are shaped when they are younger, that once older they will not depart.

What can you do to assist in our VBS? We are still in desperate need of teachers and those who can help decorate. We still need those who will help ensure that our VBS is advertised and publicized. While two and a half months seems to be a great deal of time, the reality is, that it is not. We need to make sure we plan now for our VBS to be the success that we desire it to be. I know that many of us work long hours and have other responsibilities, but I am reminded that Jesus himself said we are to do all we can to prevent our children from stumbling (Matt 18:6). I am also reminded we are to be “steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Cor 15:58).

We need you and we need your assistance to make this year’s VBS one we can be proud of. There are opportunities for EVERYONE. How can you help?
