Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks;

for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thess 5:16-18)

It was one of those weeks, a week to remember for so many reasons. Our VBS for 2012 was a “smashing success’. Our attendance ranged from a low point of 65 to a high point of 75. We had a large number of visitors, and we had a good number from our congregation represented each night. There was a host of kids who were here EACH night of the VBS, and if the kids were here that means the adults were as well. The decorations looked so good! The downstairs turned into a full-fledged train “depot” for all of the younger kids, who, by the way, noticed each of them. But of all the things important about our 2012 VBS, the most important is this: the word of God was taught.

I can assure you that those who attended every session understand why it’s important to “stay on the right track”. They know the importance of “standing out”, “making good choices”, “thinking of others”, “choosing the right friends”, and “putting Jesus first”. They should be well able to recite the Ten Commandments, and even sing about the Fruit of the Spirit. The word of God was taught. As a result, the faith of about 35-40 young people grew stronger (Romans 10:17), they grew in the “grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18), and because they were together they “exhorted one another” (Hebrews 10:25). These are not just statements from me, these are promises made by God that those who study will increase in faith, will grow in grace and knowledge, and will exhort those around them. Look at all the good that can come from five sessions of VBS.

None of this would have been possible without you. Some of you knocked doors in the heat. MANY of you worked for days and hours putting up decorations. Some brought drinks and cookies and ice cream to serve. Some stayed to serve. Some cleaned up and locked the building. And without question, MANY of you took time to prepare lessons and teach the word of God to the young people who attended last week. While decorations are nice and free Chik-fil-a is a bonus, all these things are done so that we can teach the word of God.

What a great congregation we are a part of where so many take an active role to work, encourage one another, and spread the gospel. Thank you for the work you have done. Be prepared; VBS 2013 isn’t too far off!!
