So What Now?

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matt 5:16).

I can’t help but spend time reflecting on the summer so far here at Logan Martin. We have already had lessons from three outstanding speakers in our summer series concerning “The Home Built By God”, we also have spent time preparing for the block party, where we gave out over one thousand bottles of water, and hundreds of pamphlets of information concerning the church here. We have already had those who have spent countless hours working to prepare lessons and rooms for our vacation bible school which just ended on Wednesday of this past week. Our vacation bible school appears to have been very well attended each and every night, with at least eighty present for every class.  The truth of the matter is, we aren’t even halfway there yet.

God has always expected that His people will be engaged in good works,  Paul told Titus that that in all things he should show himself a “pattern of good works” (Titus 2:7), that we are a people who should be “zealous for good works” (Titus 2:14), that those who believe in God should be “careful to maintain good works” (Titus 3:8), and lastly Peter reminds us that our “good works” are observed by those around us (1 Pet 2:12).

We should always remember that those around are watching the things we do, they are watching for OUR involvement in the works that go on here at Logan Martin, they are observing the works WE are involved in, and our ZEAL for each of those works. The question is why? Acts chapter 9 relates the story of Dorcus, this was a woman reported to be full of good works who made garments for others who were around her.  The bible records that Dorcus died, and those whom she had shown generosity to gathered around her, and brought the “tunics and garments” which she had made. Think of the impact that the kindness of this woman had on so many. Let us not think for one minute that others do not observe our zeal, and our enthusiasm for the works we do, and let’s not think for one moment that those good works may not affect others for eternity.  The opportunities continue, from camp, to Gospel meetings, we still have so many opportunities to get involved.

What a great privilege it is to work with so many incredible people who do so much for the kingdom of God.
