Monday’s Moment

There are man devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand (Proverbs 19:21).

What is in your heart? What thoughts fill your head? The word translated “devices” could also be translated “plans.” What plans do you hold and from whom were these plans gleaned?

The implication is that the counsel and plans of God will succeed, but all other plans will fail and all other counsel will lead to defeat. When we fail to follow the counsel of God, we will fail; when we fail to follow the counsel of God, our lives will be failures; when we fail to follow the counsel of God, we fail eternally.

It is the time of year wherein many are graduating from school. In these early years of your life, seek the counsel of God. It is also the time of year wherein many couples desire to be married. In the beginning stages of this change of life, seek the counsel of God. It is also the time of year, wherein many realize the advanced age they have reached in their lives. In this milestone in your life, seek the counsel of God.

Solomon had previously recorded: There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death (Proverbs 14:12). Indeed, the many ways appear to be right; the reasoning appears to be correct; the logic appears to be sound; but if the way, the reasoning and the logic is not of God, it will not and cannot succeed.

God promises eternal success to all who faithfully follow His counsel; God promises eternal loss to those who reject His counsel. Both promises are from God; both promises are true; both promises are eternal.

Let us hear and heed the counsel of God.
