In the Beginning God Created…

”In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1)

There are some things I have never understood. I have never understood Algebra, no matter how hard I tried; it just never clicked (weird how I did fine in Calculus).  I never understood the concept behind the rubix cube. I have spent hours at a time trying to twist and untwist the cube, when I can watch others just twist it right into solid colors on all four sides. And I have never understood how some could look at the design in the universe and believe all came together by random chance, without any intelligent design involved. For some, the first statement ever made in God’s word seems to be a concept that boggles the mind. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen 1:1). Seems like such an easy statement to believe. As a matter of fact, if this statement is unbelievable to someone, then likely the rest of the Bible would not make much sense.

It has become somewhat of an epidemic today to teach the idea that God did NOT create the heavens and the earth. In most public education and higher education facilities “Darwinism” is taught as fact, while creationism is given little or no attention.  According to those who believe in the Darwinism theory, the universe began as a ball of matter which combined with other matter, and then there was a “big bang”. After this big bang, a dot about the size of a pencil lead was formed. Over millions of years and changes, that pencil lead sized dot turned into earth. Life on earth was formed and began to become, in essence, us. Of course, this completely contradicts Gen 1:1 – that “in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth”. But the one question that cannot be answered is: “Where did life begin; how did we get something from nothing?” It seems to me that it would take more faith to believe in evolution than to believe that an all-powerful God did create the heavens and the earth.

God’s word tells us that “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Heb 11:1), and that “without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Heb 11:6). God has never asked us to blindly follow Him. There are more internal proofs in God’s word that give evidence beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is a God, and that He is the God we read of in our Bibles. Job, speaking years before the THEORY of evolution was presented, said that the earth “hangs” on nothing (Job 26:7). God, speaking to Job in Job chapters 38 and 39, asks questions that we still cannot answer to this day. And God leaves Job with this statement “Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? He who rebukes God, let him answer it.” (Job 40:2).

The fact is, more and more evolution is taught, many times no longer referred to as a theory but as a fact. It simply is not so. The truth of the matter is that “in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” – and in six days the earth as we know it was formed.
