Homecoming and the Southern Evangelism Conference

“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15)

This past week for each of us has been especially spiritually uplifting. The Homecoming festivities were one of a kind. The food and fellowship which this congregation experienced last Saturday represent the fellowship I believe God would like Christians to have with one another outside of our assembled times. God’s word says that Christians are to give preference to one another (Romans 12:10), and we are to ensure that we are assembled with the saints at every opportunity (Heb 10:25) we have available. Our Gospel Meeting was a wonderful success. We are indebted to Brother Jerry Martin for the simple preaching of the Gospel which he presented during the six lessons here over the past week.  The lessons were informative, and they were useful, and they will help to equip us to better serve those around us in times of crisis. I hope that each of us will take a moment to go online at www.lmcoc.com and listen to each lesson presented at least one more time.

For our young people (and some of us older ones too) the weekend was exceptionally long and uplifting. Our young people left on Friday of last week for a day at Faulkner University. A group of 20 left Logan Martin (22 returned) for the Southern Evangelism Conference. This is no ordinary youth rally. The Southern Evangelism Conference (SEC) is centered on teaching young people how to evangelize. Jesus Himself said to “go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized shall be saved” (Mark 16:15-16). SEC centers the classes, and teachings on directing the conversations young people have with their peers toward the commandment given by Jesus to preach the gospel.

This congregation should be more prepared after this week to assist those around us in so many ways. Our young people should be more equipped to teach others the Gospel of Jesus Christ, while each member here should be better prepared to assist others in times of crisis and trials. Thanks be to God for this incredible week of learning and studying the word of God to better prepare ourselves and others for Heaven.
