Have You Packed?

As one prepares for a trip the question is often asked, “Are you packed?” It is that time of year when many families prepare for their summer vacation. It is that time of year when many families load the family car and hit the highway. It is that time of year many families plan for all year. Some will pack their goods many days before time to leave, others will pack the night before – either way, all that is going to be packed must be packed before they leave.

The greatest journey is the journey that takes one from this life into eternity. This is a journey for which one prepares every day because the things one will have in eternity are the things sent ahead.

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also (Matthew 6:19-21).

The concept to “lay up” is that of amassing or keeping in store together. Jesus taught that Heaven is the place where His followers keep their treasures. All that is gained from this world will one day be destroyed with this world. All that is gained from God will live eternally with the eternal God.

The things of this world deteriorate, age and corrode; they can be stolen or lost and are very limited by the confines of this world. The things that are stored in Heaven will never deteriorate, age or corrode and can never be stolen. It must be realized that all things that will be stored in Heaven will be stored during this life. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad (II Corinthians 5:10). Let us prepare every day for that journey to Heaven.

—————————————————————————————————-

On Sunday, June 2 at 5pm we will begin a “fundamental foundations” class. This class is intended to lay the proper foundation for every Christian life. The class will also reinforce and strengthen every child of God. This class will answer the questions often asked by your friends and loved ones concerning your lives and the church.

The class period will be from 5:00 – 5:35 each Sunday evening and will continue for 20 class periods. If you are not going to sign up for the class, you are needed to sign up for child care during the class. Everyone at Logan Martin should be involved one way or the other in this work. Thank you for your great encouragement.
