Every Member Present

For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.  (Rom 12:4-5)

The preparations have been made for over a month now to have this day today, Many reminders have been given that today EACH member of the Logan Martin church of Christ should remember to be here, rather than anywhere else.  Is it true that we can worship God with any other faithful congregation of the Lords people on each Sunday, yes it is, but it is also true that as a body of Christians who identify ourselves with the Logan Martin church of Christ that we are together as often as possible.

Paul reminds those in Rome that the church is made up of individual members, that the church is not about “one person”, and that each member has its own function. We see that here at our congregation, we have members here who teach bible classes and are some of the best bible class teachers out there. Some of our members are Elders, some of our members make sure the building is clean, while some continue to make sure bulletin boards are put up. We have members who ensure that cards are sent when someone is sick or has lost a loved one, and we have members that spend time and energy working with our young people. We have members who ensure the food pantry is stocked, and members who do so much, but are silent about the role they play here at Logan Martin.  But it is great that with so many members, with so many functions, each member comes together collectively to make up this incredible congregation of God’s people.

We are reminded that the world will identify us as Christians by the “love we have one for another” (John 13:35). The Hebrew writer also reminds us that with our attendance we “consider one another to stir up love and good works” and “exhort” one another as the “Day” approaches. I hope that you will draw encouragement by being with each other today. I can not remember ever having a day where we made a concerted effort for each member to be here at one time. Thanks be to our Elders in allowing this day to take place, and thanks be to each of you for making it a point to be here on this special day.
