ENCOURAGMENT

The past few weeks have certainly been encouraging to all who seek to follow Christ. We at the Logan Martin church of Christ have welcomed three new families: Hoovers, Hyches and Thorntons. This past Sunday, Aaron Thornton put Christ on in baptism which makes it possible for us to welcome him into the family of God. We rejoice with Aaron as he begins his walk on the path of righteousness.

The apostle Paul often wrote of his finding joy in the lives of those who lived faithfully unto God. And not only [so], but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement (Romans 5:11).

The words joy, rejoice, encourage, exhort, uplift, strengthen, bear were written many times by the inspired writers concerning the relationship between Christians. As these new families bring encouragement to Logan Martin let each of us ensure that we are sources of encouragement. I am often the recipient of wonderful encouragement from you so let us make sure that we continue to encourage one another.

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him (Colossians 3:17). This text, written by Paul, is primarily referenced concerning worship but we should also make application to all aspects of our lives.  When we do all things by the authority of Jesus, think of the wonderful encouragement we are toward all others. When all our actions and words are approved by Christ, then we are encouragers as is Christ.

Let us encourage one another through the things that we say. Words can be helpful or harmful, let us strive to only use those words which are helpful. Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man (Colossians 4:6).

My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth (I John 3:18). John wrote to inform us that love is more than words but must also include action. Often the things that we do are heard more loudly than the words which we speak. This congregation has always been exemplary in her manifestation of love. Never allow Satan to rob us of these opportunities and privileges of encouraging one another. Jesus said that it is through our love one for another that the world knows that we are Christians. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another (John 13:35).

To our new families: welcome. To one and all: keep encouraging one another.
