Budget Time

Governments have them; companies have them; families have them and individuals have them. Of what are we speaking? Budgets. In theory, one cannot spend more than one takes in. Therefore, to keep from overspending, budgets are set. Budgets tell the parameters within which one must work.

All have received blessings from God and are to be good stewards of those things received. The elders of the Lord’s Church are to be good stewards of those which with which they have been blessed. We, at Logan Martin, are blessed with good and faithful elders who are good stewards. Each year our elders take the time and put in the planning to set up a budget for our congregation. Today the elders will present the 2013 budget for the Logan Martin church of Christ.

What does the budget mean for each member at Logan Martin? The budget tells of the intended purpose for the funds given to the church. Each week the bulletin shows a list of works in which Logan Martin is involved. Those receiving financial support from the Logan Martin church of Christ vary from individuals to congregations; from works local to those literally around the world.

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen (Matthew 28:18-20).

The elders of the Logan Martin church of Christ know and understand the great commission given by Jesus Christ. The mission to carry the gospel throughout the world was not just to the apostles but to all Christians. The great commission was not just to the Christians of the first century but to all Christians until Christ returns and the earth stands no more. This mission is accomplished through three basic avenues: evangelism, edification and benevolence. The Logan Martin church of Christ is involved in all three of these areas through our good works.

It takes money to perform and maintain the works in which Logan Martin is involved. It takes the money that you as members of the Logan Martin church of Christ give. It takes the money that you as members of the Logan Martin church of Christ have purposed in your hearts to give to God. It takes your good and wise stewardship of the things with which you are blessed by God to accomplish the mission of the Lord’s church. It takes the good and wise stewardship of the elders of Logan Martin to properly utilize the offerings that you give unto God.

Let each one prayerfully and faithfully continue to do our part as we give to God to accomplish the mission, the great commission of the church.
