The word “Exodus” can be translated going out.  The Jews often refer to the book of Exodus by this phrase: these are the names.  The previously mentioned phrase is made up of the first words recorded in the book of Exodus.  Moses, in the book of Exodus, follows one family as they become the mighty nation of Israel.

Moses not only follows the one family but through their lives he paints a picture of God’s relationship with His people.  As Exodus opens, the descidents of Joseph and his brethren remain in Egypt.  The Egyptians began to fear the children of Israel and made slaves out of them.  God heard the cries of the children of Israel and sent Moses as a deliverer. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Genesis 1:1

In the first verse of the first chapter of the first book of the Bible God gave an overview of the book of Genesis.  Through this wonderful book God introduced Himself by showing His power, wisdom, grace and love.

Indeed Genesis is the book of beginnings.  The beginning of the earth; the beginning of all plant and animal life; the beginning of mankind; the beginning of the family; the beginning of cities; the beginning of God’s law; the beginning of sin; the beginning of death and the beginning of hope.             I was a young boy of thirteen or fourteen years when we first met.  My family had just moved to Walker County and he offered me work.  He was a cattle farmer and he bailed hay on shares for other farmers.  He always used teenage boys to work the hay fields which worked out well for him and the boys.            The New Year is still in its early days and it seems that most of those days have been cold.  Most probably have not ventured out into the neighborhood on a casual walk but some have bundled up and played in the snow.  The choices of activities vary from person to person often depending upon the desires of the person.

Some may not choose to brave the cold but there is a walk of which the Bible speaks that every individual should choose to take. Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4).             I love Christmas, the Christmas time and the Christmas spirit.  I love the giving nature that is manifested through generous acts.  I love the care and concern for others that is shown through acts of kindness.

It is that time of year.  The time of year when many ask the same question, what would you like?  One can readily see the results of this question simply by going to a store.  Items are being purchased from every store, through the internet and from individuals.  Millions upon millions of dollars are being spent in an attempt to satisfy the desires of another.  Read More
