Thursday’s Thought

Wait on the Lord and keep his way and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it (Psalm 37:34).
The word “wait” presents the idea of patience and also binding together. As followers of God, we patiently await the counsel of God and we patiently obey the precepts of God, through which we also draw closer to God. When we hear and heed the word of God, He will guard and guide us through this life, into the life to come. Why should we wait on the Lord; why should we keep His law? God is the One who sees from beginning to end; God is the One who sees and knows all things; God is the One who knows us better than we know ourselves.
Man’s power is very limited and man’s view is very restricted. Man should recognize his reliance on God. It is God who secures our past and assures our future. The children of God have the promise of life after this life; the children of God have the promise of eternal peace; the children of God have the promise of eternal comfort; and the children of God have the promise of eternal joy. In contrast the wicked are promised eternal torment; the wicked are promised eternal sorrow; the wicked are promised eternal pain and the wicked are promised eternal separation from God.
God’s counsel for mankind is: Wait on the Lord and keep his way.
