Wednesday’s Word

For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light (Psalm 36:9).
God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and with this breath of life, man became a living soul (Genesis 2:7). Before this event, man did not exist; before this event, man did not live. Man’s very existence is through the creation of God; man’s life is through the grace of God. This is a hard lesson for man to remember because man likes to think of himself as self-sustaining, but nothing could be farther from the truth. The absolute truth is: without God man could not live; without God man could not exist.
Jesus declared that He is the “way, truth and life” (John 14:6). Without God there is no physical life; without God there is not spiritual life and without God there is no eternal life. Jesus Christ is referenced as the Word of life (I John 1:1) and the word of God is also referenced as the word of life (Philippians 2:16). Paul reminded the Ephesians that they (and we) were dead in sins, but quickened (made alive) in Christ. The obedient are given life in Christ and sustain life by feasting upon the word.
John also describes Jesus as the light, who came into the world of darkness (John 1:5). The world was in the darkness of hopelessness because of sin, but Jesus Christ brought light and hope. There are many who continue to wander in darkness not realizing that light is available. Let us show the light to the world in darkness; let us take life to those who are lifeless.
