What God Wants..

Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. (1 Peter 4:1-2)

I remember when I was a kid the old McDonalds commercial would come on saying “what you want is what you get”. It’s a great thought, and we live in a world now which  literally is  a “what you want is what you get” place. Sometimes we want more money, sometimes more free time, sometimes more family time, you can name your own list of the things you want. But for most of us, we realize that what you want is not always what you get. The same is true of God, not that God does not have the power to get whatever he wants, but we know there are things which God desires above all, for example God desires “all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim 1:4), but we know from the sermon on the mount Jesus said there is a narrow way which leads to eternal life, and there will be FEW who will find it. With that being said, these are four of MANY possible points, but four things which God wants:

  • God wants to save everyone (2 Pet 3:9) – There is not one soul that God desires to spend eternity in Hell, as a matter of fact Peter indicates to us that we should remember the promise of God in the return of Jesus, and how God is not slack concerning what He has said, but rather God is patient, wishing all to come to repentance
  • God wants to save you (Eph 2:12) – Paul reminds the Ephesians that there was a time when those who were gentiles were “without Christ” and “aliens” from the commonwealth of Israel. Paul is reminding them that God has made a way for them to be saved, and there was a time when they were “without hope”. How thankful can we be to our God that He has provided a way for us to be saved.
  • God wants you to endure – Gal 6:9 and Heb 12:1… Also  1 Cor 9:24-25
  • God wants to take your cares and burdens away (1 Pet 5:7) – What a great reminder from Peter that God cares for us. Jesus emphasized that our worrying will not allow us to add one cubit of stature to our body. And God wants us to cast all of our cares on Him
  • God wants to use you in His service (Eph 2:10) – What a reminder that we were created for “good works”. I can not think of a better work to be involved in, than the work of the church, the business of helping others, and the business of saving souls. While we may have a number of jobs in this life. God expects each of us to be in His service
