Redeeming The Time

Redeeming the time, because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:16). We are in the fourth quarter of 2015, where did the year go? Ten more Sundays before the New Year; have you accomplished the goals you set at the beginning of the year?

The word translated “redeeming” means to “rescue from loss.” God warns us to not waste the time we have because we do not know how much more time there is to come.

Procrastination is a dangerous trait into which many fall. Some suggest, why do today what can be put off until tomorrow? The problem with this reasoning is tomorrow is not promised. Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.  15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that (James 4:13-15). The fact is noted each year: one day turns into a week; one week turns into a month and finally one month turns into a year.

The number of daily Bible readers has increased. Some who set this as a goal have been diligently successful: congratulations and thank you very much. You will never regret the time you set aside to read the word of God; you will never regret the knowledge you gain through your studies and you will never regret the strength you have gained in your faith.

Some have set as a goal to be in attendance at every service of the Lord’s church. You will never regret the time spent in worship of God; you will never regret having fellowship with the brethren; you will never regret singing praises to God and you will never regret encouraging your fellow servants. Thank you for your service and your encouragement.

Some have set as a goal to spend more time in prayer to God. You will never regret the time you spend communicating with the omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient God; you will never regret the time you spend in thanking God for the innumerable blessings received from God; you will never regret the time you spend in asking God for strength; you will never regret the time you set aside to ask God’s forgiveness.

When time stands no more, those who fail to assign time to read God’s word will regret it; those who fail to participate in the time to faithfully worship God will regret it and those who fail to use the time to pray to God will regret it. There will be no regrets in Heaven.

Redeeming the time, because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:16).
